What changes
FMCSA’s final rule removes a duplicative federal requirement for CDL holders to report certain motor-vehicle convictions to their state of domicile. State licensing agencies now exchange the relevant records electronically.
What does not change
The rule does not erase a conviction, cancel a suspension or disqualification, or override an employer’s reporting policy. Separate court, state or company obligations may still apply.
Driver takeaway
Keep the court disposition, review the motor-vehicle record and notify the carrier or safety department when required. Confirm any state-specific duty before assuming no report is necessary.
